The Philipps-Universität Marburg is looking for teaching staff for their upcoming International Summer university "Germany and Europe in a Turbulent World", 22 July - 16 August, 2024.

Teaching Contract

The Hessen International Summer University “Germany and Europe in a Turbulent World” is a four-week summer program with an average of 40 participants from all around the world. The ISU is organized by Professor Thorsten Bonacker (Center for Conflict Studies) and Professor Eckart Conze (Department of Modern History) and includes four modules pertaining to German and European Culture, Society, History and Politics. Students from all over the world come to Marburg to take part in the ISU, including from USA, Spain, Egypt, South Korea, and more!

This year’s ISU takes place from 22nd of July until 16th of August, with seminars given in Session 1 (22.07.24-01.08.24) and Session 2 (06.08.24-16.08.24).

We looking for qualified teachers to offer seminars in the following modules:

Session 1: (22.07.24-01.08.24)
1. Module “History”
2. Module “Society”

Session 2: (06.08.24-16.08.24)
1. Module “History”
2. Module “Society”
3. Module “Politics”

Teachers are able to develop their own course content and are encouraged to make it interactive for the students. Some of the topics that are dealt with at the ISU include:
- European History (from 1945 to present), especially with focus on European integration, Germany, or international contexts;
- the emergence of the European Union (and its predecessor)
- the EU as foreign and/or security actor (before or after 1990, or in the wider transatlantic and global context)
- the role of Germany in and for the dynamics of European Integration
- European memory culture (beyond national boundaries)

Each seminar consists of nine 90-minute sessions (18 teaching hours), is taught in English, and is made up of between 10-15 students.

A standard teaching contract with the University of Marburg (€50/teaching hour)
